Bezrukov's answer to the new type of war is to deny the West a decisive strike, hold its economic assets at risk with conventional weapons, and endure the struggle long enough to outlast the West
Bezrukov is fully deluded. Obviously lives in a fantasy land along with his dear leader. Everyday Russians are not interested in this shit are cynical and self interested in the extreme after 20 years of being ruled by a psychopath. NATO is a defensive organisation, clearly, you don't have to listen to what they say just look at what they do and how feckless they are. Russia tries to blow up a huge plane in the the middle of Germany and rather than immediately say blowing up a few Russian positions in occupied Ukraine as retaliation. They do nothing!
Well, the west has been trying to balkanise Russia for a few centuries, sometimes through war, invasion and pushing adjacent areas into nations hostile to Russia like Galicia/ Poland and the very history of Ukraine to the Bandera issue.
We have moved from periodic war to permanent conflict. The blame lies not w Russia. It looks like the west is still very keen on remaining the path of subjugating Russia. It blames Russia through its colonialism/ expansionism. But tell me, which country can live w constant threathening issues at its border, especially when they are clearly pushed by powerplayers nowwhere near them? You can call it paranoia but isn't it more reality based on history?
According to the west Russia is both weak and losing AND strong enough to conquer western Europe. Apparently they can both be true. That kind of madness is an affront to logic.
Russia has the combined population of Germany and France and before the war had the GDP of Italy. It’s incomprehensible to me how the Russian leadership coulf ever hope te win an attrition contest. Peak megalomania!
If Russia wants a strategy shift it might consider supporting every and all statements with a call for United Nations reform. This would be (a) taking the high moral ground and (d) exposing the West to its opposite. One can interpret the expansion of NATO with USA threats to Russia, Iran, and China as consistent with its unilateral withdrawal from support for the UN, and thereby, actually undermining itself.
Thanks for the review. The way military elites are, I don’t see this being allowed to develop, except for the endless war condition that provides constant opportunity for personal enrichment
This is Russian nihilism straight out of the 19th century. How would they expect to outlast the much richer and technologically advanced West in a war of attrition?
You are going back a bit. The Germany and France you are referring to were fighting a coalition of nations, though Russians like to pretend they defeated them single-handedly. And it was Russia that was invaded. This time it is Russia which has invaded a neighbour. The only foreign troops on Russian soil are North Koreans. A war that set out to smash Ukraine turned that country into a serious military power. More war is probably not what Russia needs right now.

assumption: the current regime survives

Ask Germany or France, as the world’s great military powers when they decided to conquer Russia.
